Anti-Social Behaviour Update
From regular meetings with the Chief Inspector of Hemel Police, to relaying evidence to the Policing Minister, to ride-alongs with Herts Police, Anti-social behaviour in Hemel needs action, not words.
Tackling antisocial behaviour is one of my priorities, putting victims' needs first.
The last government cut officers by 20,000 and took 60p out of every pound from local councils. Crime doubled in Hemel between 2014 and the beginning of 2024.
These are the steps I have taken since being elected in July:
๐จRaised antisocial behaviour with the Policing Minister, providing evidence of hotspot areas experiencing high instances of crime, such as Livingstone Walk, highlighting the need for an increase in resources.
๐จMet with the Hertfordshire Police Federation to hear about the obstacles officers face in taking action on ASB and what tools they need to combat anti-social behaviour in our community effectively.
๐จAttended ride-a-longs with Herts Police to see the challenges faced by front-line officers, informing the action I take in Parliament.
๐จSupported 51 individual constituents by listening to their experiences and challenges in surgeries which allowed me to advocate on their behalf with the local council and housing authorities.
๐จAsked for the Respect Order to be piloted in Hemel, which gives police more powers and enables courts to place wide-ranging restrictions on the actions of the most persistent and disruptive anti-social behaviour offenders.
๐จMet regularly with the Chief Inspector of Hemel Police to get a holistic view of the issues in Hemel and raise residentsโ concerns.
๐จSecured a Parliamentary debate on Anti-social behaviour in Herts where I shared constituents' stories to highlight the need for more support and resources locally.
๐จWelcomed the government's commitment to neighbourhood policing and the kickstart of recruitment with a named officer for every area.
